Coach
Coach is a renowned American fashion house, established in 1941 in Manhattan, New York. Initially founded as Gail Manufacturing Company by a group of six leather artisans, it evolved significantly when Miles and Lillian Cahn joined in 1946, bringing their expertise in leather goods. By 1950, under Miles Cahn’s leadership, the company transitioned into producing high-quality women’s handbags, a move that defined its future. Renamed as Gail Leather Products in 1961, and later as Coach, the brand became synonymous with luxury yet accessible leather goods.
The addition of designer Bonnie Cashin in 1962 marked a pivotal era, as her innovative designs featuring vibrant colors and practical features elevated the brand’s appeal. Throughout the decades, Coach expanded its product line to include not just handbags but also clothing, shoes, eyewear, luggage, and more. A notable partnership with Estee Lauder Companies in 2007 marked its venture into fragrances.
Today, Coach operates over 500 stores across the U.S. and Canada, with a robust presence in Japan and extensive distribution in department stores worldwide. Despite its growth and changes in ownership, Coach maintains its headquarters in Manhattan, continuing its legacy as a symbol of American fashion and craftsmanship.
